Andy Burnham spoke today. He set out a ten‑year devolution plan. He called it a “No 10 in the North”. The plan would hand city mayors extra powers. Burnham stated the steps will lift that north’s economy and close the gap with the south. He said the goal is more local control over roads, training and cash. The scheme targets infrastructure, skills and investment.
It is his first big speech since announcing his bid for prime minister. He urged local leaders to team up on that three priorities. The BBC and The Guardian said the announcement.
