Recent periods of high temperatures across Europe caused over 35,000 excess deaths. Germany reported a record 15,800 heat-linked deaths during the summer season. Meanwhile, France connected a sharp rise in drownings directly to the intense summer heat affecting the region.
Conditions remain severe in the United States as well. Severe heat and active wildfires spread across the country from Texas all the way to the West Coast. Arizona remains set to experience extreme temperatures this week. In response to the dangerous conditions, governments released safety advisories to guide the public through the ongoing extreme weather.
