His record includes work for LGBTQIA+ rights and prior association with Labor Party and Sex Party. In May 2026 he revealed he is openly homosexual and has an Indonesian Muslim boyfriend. His election helped boost One Nation in South Australia as leader Bernardi secured a Legislative Council position.
